The building stands over a small rectangular lot 32ft x 82ft located a short distance from the Mapocho river in "La Java de Renca" - a popular neighborhood in Renca, Santiago de Chile.
Conversations with the church members and the priest in the design phase resulted in a first floor with the narthex, baptistery,  funeral chapel, nave, presbytery and sacristy. The nave - with a capacity of 80 seated worshipers - has a lower ceiling in the entrance which can be closed to convert the space into a funeral chapel. In that case the entrance to the main area of the nave will be through two lateral doors.
The second floor was dedicated to a kitchen for the making of bread that will finance activities of the community. This body hangs as an independent volume inside the space of the nave.
The goal of the project asthmatically and semiologically is to show sacrility of light shining down on the lateral walls creating a dimly lit space that contrasts with the strong beam of light that falls over the altar and the radiance that surrounds the images of the saints on each side of the altar.
The materials of the volumes are brick, exposed concrete, and corten steel that give the reminiscence of the fences and rusted tin that  inhabitants used to buil the settlement after they took the area over the stone walls that contain the Mapocho river.
